Helmsley, YO62 5EB
Designed in 1713 by William Wakefield for the Duncombe family, and remodelled in the late 1800s after a fire, Duncombe Park is a fine example of 19th century opulence.
A family home of the descendants of the original owners, it is hard to imagine that only a few years ago the house was unoccupied. Prior to that - and for most of the 20th century - it was a girls' school.
The main rooms of the house contain Lord Feversham's collection of English and continental furniture, with some fine family pictures The house is surrounded by a marvellous early 18th century 30-acre landscaped garden, set in 300 acres of dramatic parkland around the River Rye. The parkland contains several waymarked walks as part of this national nature reserve. Guided tours of the house and gardens are available.
Events are held throughout the year, please ring for more details.
