Ryedale Beckett League Division One

Malton & Old Malton 156-4 wkts beat Settrington 93-8 wkts by 63 runs

Malton set about the Settrington bowling with J Davies 75 and Dave Bradshaw 28 hitting the ball to all parts of the ground. Jonty Rounthwaite bowled a tidy spell towards the end of the innings returning 2-25.

Settrington made a solid start with openers George and Eddy Rounthwaite adding 50 for the first wicket with the former scoring 37 and the latter 19.

The introduction of Matthew Hodgson's left arm spin turned the game in Malton's favour as he finished with 4-13 in 4 overs. Dave Chugg 3-18 almost captured a hat-trick toward the end as Malton secured a comfortable victory.

Hovingham 71-2 beat Nawton Grange 70 all out by 8 wkts

Nawton made a disastrous start as they lost five wickets in the first six overs, as man of the match Rich Bowling took 4-14 from 3 overs and he was well supported by Henry Scott 2-14.

Darren Palmer offered the most resistance on a soft wicket, with 20 runs as Nawton limped to 70. Hovingham went into bat, in fairly poor light, but Charlie Foster 22 and Pete Carr 32 put the game to bed with three overs remaining as John and Steve Mosey knocked off the runs after the departure of Foster and Carr.

Pete Wilson was the pick of the Nawton bowlers with 2-20.

Division Two

Burythorpe 87 for 4 wkts beat Ryedale 86 for 4 wkts by 6 wkts

Burythorpe continued their good start to the season with a comfortable victory over Ryedale. Choosing to bat first, Ryedale struggled to get going, against some tight bowling from Andy Milner and Matt Beckett. Only some poor catching let the bowling side down, with Eamonn Wall a particularly unlucky bowler. Milner was the pick of the attack, with 1-7 from 4 miserly overs, while some late hitting from top scorer Ibbotson brought some respectability to Ryedale's total. Burythorpe's openers began steadily, with Dan Clarke providing an effective anchor role against some hostile fast bowling from Feaster. However, Wayne Calvert, making his Burythorpe debut, delighted the crowd with an astonishing display of beautifully-timed big hitting in producing a match-winning 43 not out. He hit 28 from a single over bowled by Kev Fields, who up to that point had been hard to get away. One enormous straight six will live long in the memory. Despite a double- wicket maiden from Burns, Burythorpe made their target with over 3 overs to spare.

On this form, when all their players are available, Burythorpe will be a tough team to beat.

Whitwell 76-3 wkts beat Ampleforth 75-4 by 7 wkts

Ampleforth batted first and got off to a slow start but when Matthew Freeth came to the wicket the runs started to come.

However Ampleforth's main hope was Pete Banks whose 32 runs made a game of it, but when he was out in the ninth over the runs dried up again. All the Whitwell bowlers bowled well.

Whitwell started well but lost star performer Ryan in the third over.

However, they had the men for the job in Salsbury 39 not out and Tate-Smith 22 who took control.

With only a few runs needed Freeth took two quick wickets but the game was already won with Whitwell reaching their target in the 11th over.

Slingsby 72-9 wkts beat Thornton-le-Dale 34 by 38 runs

Slingsby marked their debut in the league with a win at Thornton.

Batting first on a damp pitch they found the Dale bowlers hard to get away and totalled what looked like a modest 72. Only Neil Fairweather 24 and Fraser Land 17 managed to look comfortable.

D Hill 4-20, Tom Sigsworth 2-17 and C Hedlam 2-20 did the damage.

When Dale batted there was a rapid procession back to the pavilion. The home side failed to register a boundary and none of the batters managed to score more than 10.

Neil Fairweather 3-6 stole the show with a hat-trick in the 10th over and was ably backed up by Shane Marshall 3-4.

Brawby 98-4 wkts beat Slingsby 82-9 wkts by 16 runs

Newcomers Slingsby met with their first defeat when entertaining Brawby. The visitors batted first and P Milner scored the bulk of the runs. John Hatfield also took a very good catch for the hosts, Wayne Fawcett picked up 4-18 and Shane Marshall got 4-22. Slingsby's Cirk Newton showed he is no slouch with the bat hitting 19 runs. Brawbys batter P Milner had a very good game.

Heslerton 91-4 beat Thornton-le-Dale 90-8 by 6 wkts

Despite a flurry of early wickets from Dave Fleming 3-18 and Kristian Wilkinson 3-15 Thornton-le-Dale recovered to a very respectable 90 thanks mainly to wily campaigner Stuart Hill who made 53.

Heslerton's reply was well paced, to such an extent that the winning runs were only scored from the last available delivery by Simon Oxendale who anchored the innings with 39 not out. Tim Hodgson bowled a fine spell of left arm pace for the losers.

In reply Brian Leckenby 47 not out and A Rivis 44 not out took Park to the win with out the loss of a wicket.
