DRAW specialists Malton & Norton recorded their fifth share-all in six games thanks to a late penalty against defending Leeper Hare York and District Football League premier division champions Huntington Rovers.

The Ryedale side made a flying start as two defensive errors gifted goals to Simon Collins and Curtis Drummond inside the opening 12 minutes.

A brilliant Pete Laidlow free-kick on the half-hour pulled a goal back for Huntington, but three minutes later Malton & Norton went 3-1 in front when Brian Howe headed in a fine cross.

Two goals from Gary Newton, the first a clever chip over the ’keeper brought the sides level and, with 10 minutes left. Huntington were putting the Malton defence under great pressure and Chris Dyson scored for the seventh successive game to put Huntington in front for the first time.

However, battling Malton salvaged a point as Mark Lund equalised from the penalty spot two minutes from time.

Malton & Norton play Selby side Kartiers at home next Saturday.

Amotherby & Swinton moved up into fifth place in division one after beating Rufforth 2-1.

Terrington Glory and Strensall drew 1-1 in a top of the table division three clash. Strensall’s John Cooper cancelled out an earlier goal from Chris Leedham.

Scott Simpson fired in a hat-trick as Norton United recovered from being a goal down inside 10 minutes to win 5-2 at Bishop Wilton.

Danny Hamilton and Tony Ellison worked hard to get Norton back in the game but were thwarted by the home goalkeeper and the villagers went 2-0 up after a clearing kick by Norton goalkeeper Waterton hit a Bishop’s player and rolled into the empty net.

Two minutes later Steve Spaven beat four defenders before firing home. Simpson’s powerful header, from a Simon Collier cross levelled on the stroke of half-time.

Simon Evans fired Norton ahead for the first time before new signing Rich Burrows put Simpson through for his second and ten minutes later the striker completed his treble to earn improving Norton victory.
