OLD Malton St Marys' 2-0 win over leaders Wiggington Grasshoppers has boosted their title chances in the York Minster Engineering League Premier Division.
A tremendous team display from OMFC helped the home side overcome a battling Wiggington Grasshoppers side who are unbeaten since January.
Marcus Godsell’s bullet header from Darren Dunning’s corner put Old Malton ahead a quarter of an hour into this crucial tie.
Old Malton missed a series of chances with the visitors throwing their bodies in front of goal bound efforts.
Ben Gill produced his best save of the season to push the ball over the crossbar.
In the second half with the visitors stepped up the pressure but Old Malton defended superbly. Damian Cox ensured the victory with a tremendous left footed shot that found the far corner which sparked jubilant celebrations.
Old Malton now have three games remaining with seven points being enough to see them crowned champions.
The title chase was bolstered by a 9-0 win over Church Fenton last Saturday .
Marcus Godsell notched five with Tom Hoggard and Dean Nuttall both claiming a brace.
Old Malton earned a 4-2 win at Osbaldwick on Monday night.
They showed great spirit and determination as they came from behind at half time to claim all three points. Godsell smashed home from a well saved Scott Nicholas effort, Danny Fogg grabbed a brace and Callum Scott tapped the ball in from millimetres out.
