KEVIN WILSON’S excellent 81 set up Malton & Old Malton’s victory in division three of the HPH York Vale League on Saturday.

His great knock, coupled with a solid 27 from Tom Pindar and an unbroken seventh-wicket half-century partnership between Dan Ingham (26no) and Wayne Cullen (24no), saw Malt finish on 201-6 against Pocklington.

The Gannock side, led by Ollie Varey’s 5-28, bowled Pock out for 108 to record a 93-run win.

It was a different story for Malton’s second string who were routed by Thixendale in division four.

Thixendale closed on 211-6 after a second-wicket stand of 101 between Geoff Room, who retired on 66, and Simon Walgate (60).

With Will Megginson weighing in with an unbeaten 54, Malt were set a tough target. The pick of the Malton bowlers was Christopher Hall with 4-66.

Malton’s innings lasted just 15.5 overs as they were rolled over for a measly 39 – 14 of those being extras. The main destroyers were Jonty Gillingham with 4-4 and Walgate with 3-7.

Stamford Bridge picked up 30 points after opponents Yapham II conceded.

In division two, Westow’s difficult start to the season continued with a four-wicket loss at home to Hemingbrough.

Tight opening spells by the visiting bowlers had Westow on 37-2 at drinks. Matt Shipley stood firm with 28 but Westow finished on a below-par 121-7.

Hemingbrough also struggled with the bat and needed all but four balls of their 40 overs to win by four wickets, Dave Coverdale taking 3-21 from his 12 overs.
