RELAXED Chris Halley can’t wait to resume EuroPro Tour hostilities next month - and those greens better watch out.

The Malton & Norton golfer is promising to be a more aggressive player this season after gaining his full playing card following final qualifying at Frilford Heath Golf Club earlier this month.

Halley, the former Yorkshire Amateur and Yorkshire Order Of Merit champion, was a model of consistency over three rounds - firing a trio of 70s - as he finished tied 15th at the Oxfordshire course to pick up his credentials.

Having played in 11 EuroPro events last year, making four cuts, Halley feels he will be in much better shape to put in improved performances this season with 12 months in the professional ranks under his belt.

And he believes a pin-seeking approach on the greens - more suited to his natural game - will bring better results when the new campaign begins with the World Snooker Open, at Celtic Manor, Newport, from May 13-15.

“I am obviously happy to get a full card,” Halley said. “It means you can plan the season ahead - what you can play in and what you can’t.

“I have been playing well and have put a lot more time in this winter. I was in poor form last year.

“I’d had a great year before I turned pro and I think I went in with too high expectations. I can admit that to myself.

“I know that when I play well I can score. I was a bit defensive last year. You play for your own money, in theory, and it costs a lot of money. I would stand in a fairway and, if I was indecisive, I would try and hit half a club more and hit the middle of the green.

“This year, I will be hitting the right club and aiming at the flag. I am going in more relaxed.

I know what to expect and that should be a massive help. Before, I was going to courses I had never played and some of the lads, who have been on the tour for three or four years, know where to miss it.

“I try not to set goals. I am looking forward to it. I am looking at things differently this season.”

Halley expressed his thanks to his sponsors, Whitby Seafoods, Ultimategolfcoach.com and James Whitaker Golf, for their support as he bids to establish himself in the professional game.
