MALTON 1 will be relegated from York & District League division one after two defeats confirmed their fate.

Malt’s bad run of form continued with a 4-1 loss at home to title-chasing Wigginton 1 and a 5-0 hammering in the immediate return fixture.

Malton’s premier team seem safe in Yorkshire League division one with three matches left as they bounced back from a shock 3-2 defeat by relegation-threatened York RI with a 5-0 whitewash of Chapel Allerton 2.

Malt’s winners against RI were Jamie Hopwood and Paul Buckland.

In the following match there were wins for Hopwood, James Buckland, Mike Catling, Joe Woodhead and Jonathan Everitt.

In division three of the York & District League, Malton 2 beat York 3 3-2 with wins from Steve Towse, Jonty Rounthwaite and Jimmy Mason, who secured victory in the deciding rubber. They then beat David Lloyd 2 4-1, with Rob Taylor, Mason, Towse and Andy Rising victorious. The team are in fifth place.

In division four, Malton 3 tumbled down the table with three defeats - 4-1 to Stillington 3, 5-0 to York 6 and 4-1 to Heslington 1. Graham Milner and Kevin Goddard got their only wins in this time.

Malton 4 sit fourth in division five after losing 3-2 to Ampleforth, Adam Duffill and Goddard getting wins.

Malton 1 ended their York & District Ladies League season in fifth after losing 3-2 to York 1 - their two wins coming from walkovers - and 4-1 at Dunnington 1, Emma Clarke their only winner.

In division two, Malton 2 sit third, one point behind second, with one game to go. They lost 3-2 to Selby 1, Kat Smith and Rosey Taylor getting points, but better performances brought a 5-0 victory at York RI 2 and a 3-2 win over previously unbeaten leaders Stillington 1. Linda Craggs and Becca Polley were undefeated in those two matches.
