MALTON man Ben Myers produced the best ride of the day on the very last section to earn a podium place in a strong intermediate class at Scarborough District Motor Club’s trial at Harwood Dale on Sunday.

Clerk of Course Dave Wilkinson laid on 12 testing sections for the 105 riders and conditions in the river proved slippy on the first lap but improved.

Section three across the river and rock step caused more bother. In fact, Hull supremo Jim Austermuhle went for a dip in the water without the bike and intermediate riders James Wainwright and Mark Taylor were still laughing when they both failed here, but Myers kept a straight face and cleaned.

Myers kept it together well all day and the best ride - two marks lost - on the last section bagged him third place in a strong class won by Stockton’s Rob Carter.

James Carr, from Scarborough, jumped onto a brand new 300cc Scorpa and won the experts category by a comfortable margin from Acklam Beta rider Tom Hick, from York.
