RYEDALE Sports Club’s recent good run in Scarborough & District League division one ended in firm fashion - with a 9-0 thrashing by new leaders Filey Town.

Former Pickering Town striker Darren Clough scored two goals, as did James Pinder.

Liam Sugden, Tommy Wilson, Ricky Tomlinson, Cameron Dobson and John Emerson, with a penalty, also scored.

Matthew Todd was Ryedale’s man of the match.

Basement side Ayton were on the receiving end of a 14-0 thrashing at Whitby Fishermen - confirming their relegation.

Neil Hart hit six of the goals and Steve Ross three, while keeper Paul Cull scored a penalty.

Westover Wasps and Seamer Sports drew 2-2.

Seamer went two up through Gary Lawton and Joe Gallagher but Westover pulled one back in the first minute of the second half through Curtis Rose and Chris Cass equaliseed with an excellent header from a James Young cross.

In the League Cup, Newlands Park beat West Pier 4-0 to move into the semi-finals thanks to goals by Sean Exley, Danny Jenkinson, Adam Stride and Aidan Thomas.

In the League Trophy, second division Edgehill reserves beat third division leaders Seamer Sports reserves 4-3 in a thriller.

Seamer took a deserved lead through Rob Pinder but Edgehill turned it round through Joe Logan, after good work by Lee Dennis, and substitute Dave Bell with his first touch.

A second Pinder goal levelled matters and Seamer then regained the lead when a Matty Drury header was tipped onto the bar by impressive Edgehill keeper Darren Palmer only for Matty Dawson to follow up to score.

Edgehill were back level terms after 75 minutes when Logan headed in after good work by Dennis, and their winner came nine minutes from time - Bell’s unstoppable 30-yard free-kick putting his side into the semi-finals.

Division two leaders Whitby RUFC’s promotion was sealed with a 2-0 win over Scalby thanks to second-half goals by Ben Sullivan and Sam Richardson.

Cayton Corinthians are favourites to join them after beating Duchess 3-1.

Jake McAleese opened Cayton’s scoring with a free-kick but Nick Bell levelled after half-time when he followed up his penalty which was saved.

Cayton quickly regained the lead when Isaac Sands scored with a fine header, and Josh Venner’s brilliant solo late on sealed the result.

Cayton Corinthians reserves, in the promotion pack in division three, won 9-2 at Scalby reserves with goals scored by Mike Szalabski (3), Jon Hodgson (2), Ashley Durham, Jake Sands, Jon Read and Scott Davison.
