KIRKDALE United stormed into the Panasonic League Division 2 Cup second round with a 5-0 win at Snainton reserves - although the game was closer than the scoreline suggests.

Kirkdale forced a smart save from Scott Wardman straight from the kick off, and took the lead after just three minutes when a superb through ball by Sean Murray saw Jamie Harper race clear.

Rob Galtrey bundled the ball in from a corner in the ninth minute before Alex Croall saw a 25-yarder superbly saved by Wardman.

Tony Dodd made an excellent save for Kirkdale before Harper added his second, forcing his way through to again slot home.

He had a chance to complete a first-half hat-trick but put his effort over.

Kirkdale kept control in the second half with Dodd dealing with any Snainton threat while Jordan Green became increasingly influential.

Croall scored a magnificent 25-yard free-kick, and Green rounded off a terrific team show when latching onto a ball by substitute Josh Berry to volley in from 25 yards.

Left-back Billy Sullivan was Snainton’s man of the match. Kirkdale’s best was Andy Parker.

Settrington reserves edged a close tie at Norton United.

Poor defending allowed Setty to go ahead as Jack Batty cut into the area and pulled the ball back for Rhys Piercy.

Norton levelled through a solo goal by man-of-the-match right-midfielder Danny Pile, but Settrington won it six minutes from time as Frazer Hall floated a cross in from the left for Sam Mills to thump in an 18-yard volley.

Both sides finished with 10 men - Norton’s Tom Clemment and Settrington’s Rhys Piercy sent off in separate incidents. Skipper Lee Timms and 16-year-old keeper Josh Ellis were Setty’s star men.

Brooklyn 3rds pipped 10-man Stillington Sports & Social Club 2-1.

Karl Simpson put Stillington ahead but his side soon had Wayne Linton sent off.

Brooklyn hit a post and had an effort cleared off the line before equalising when Keaton Watson combined well with Billy Bowns and Cameron Swift to set up Jordan Horsley to score.

Swift got the winner, beating two defenders before slotting home.

Jack McLoud got a vital block in late on to prevent an equaliser. Right-back Marcus Brigham was Brooklyn’s man of the match.

Thornton-le-Dale reserves forfeited their tie against Gillamoor. They are seeking new players before Sunday’s transfer deadline. Anyone interested can phone secretary Michael Barnes on 01751 475134 or player-manager Kian Brewster on 01751 431701 or 07554 018779.
