INJURY has hit North Yorkshire athlete Richard Buck with a double whammy.

The former pupil at Lady Lumley’s School, Pickering, was scheduled to compete in the 400 metres at last weekend’s British Indoor Championships, held in Sheffield.

But a niggling injury saw him withdraw from that tournament, and on the subsequent advice of his trainer - Nick Dakin, the head of sport at Loughborough University - the 28-year-old was advised not to compete in this weekend’s Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham as well.

The Great Britain international and World Games medallist - who won the ‘B’ race at the corresponding Birmingham Indoor Grand Prix last year - has often been seen as an indoor specialist but has already acknowledged how the current indoor season is being used primarily to build up for a significant impact on this year’s outdoor campaign.

Buck’s City of York Athletic Club colleague, Scott Lincoln, 21, won silver at the British Indoor Championships after throwing 17.37 metres. Zane Duquemin took the title with 17.72m.
