THORNTON-LE-DALE moved into the last four of this season’s Ryedale Hospital Cup thanks to a 3-1 win at Rosedale.

The result set up a semi-final away to high-fliers Wombleton Wanderers, while the other last-four tie of this newitts.com Beckket League competition sees Sinnington host Kirkdale United, with the dates of the fixtures yet to be confirmed.

In a very good game, Rosedale played much better than of late but Thornton-le-Dale - in their first outing for four weeks - were in control for most of the contest, albeit while again failing to convert many of their chances.

They took the lead five minutes before half-time when Gary Parker - thhe man of the match - won the ball in midfield and passed to Jamie Dennison who crossed for Luke Clemitt to score a fine opener.

Thornton doubled their lead after 58 minutes when a corner fell to Parker, whose superb shot sailed into the top corner.

Four minutes later, David Elliot got his reward for all his chasing and harrying when he scored his side’s third goal.

Rosedale pulled one back two minutes from time through Sam Knowles but Thornton held out for their semi-final place.

Tom Bell, who started up front for Rosedale but played the last hour at centre-back was his team’s man of the match.
