A GOOD entry of 84 riders turned out for the Guisborough District Motor Club trial at Slapewath on Sunday - with 14-year-old Jack Peace, from Kirkbymoorside, finishing just one mark off the leading riders.

Scarborough’s James Carr and Faceby’s Guy Kendrew topped the expert class both on zero marks lost, with Peace taking the youth ‘A’ class crown, on just one mark, lost on section five on the first lap.

The intermediate class produced an exciting four-way battle involving Wombleton’s Shane Monkman, Hartlepool’s Simon Winfield, and Scarborough duo Mark Taylor and Gary Collinson.

Winfield and Collinson shook off the effects of bad falls on the rock step of section seven to clean it last lap and Taylor fought back from an awful five on section nine to produce a last lap of four marks.

But Monkman matched him, while Collinson came into the reckoning with a fantastic last lap of one - Winfield hanging on for the win on most cleans with Monkman the runner-up.
