PICKERING TOWN will be hoping their Glass is half full on Saturday.

The Pikes travel to struggling Glasshoughton Welfare in the Northern Counties East League premier division hoping the wintry weather doesn’t take its toll again.

Pickering’s clash with basement side Nostell Miners Welfare was postponed last weekend after an inspection found the Recreation Ground pitch was frost bound and had several areas of standing water on it.

That game will now be played on Tuesday, March 3 (7.45pm).

With only one game played in the NCEL premier - Albion Sport’s 1-1 draw with Parkgate - Pickering stayed 11th in the table.

Glasshoughton have picked up just 12 points in a miserable campaign and last won in the league in December. After the Nostell call-off, this is another good chance for manager Tony Hackworth and his squad to end a blip that has seen them lose their last two games.

After a four-match winning run, the Pikes were downed by Albion Sports in the league and then faced a stern task against high-flying Cleethorpes Town in the fourth round of the League Cup last Tuesday.

Despite a 3-2 defeat, Hackworth will be pleased with his team’s response to the dismal Albion defeat as they took an outfit in second place in the league ladder to extra time.

Cleethorpes struck first after just two minutes when Marc Cooper headed the visitors ahead in what turned out to be the only goal of the first half.

Pickering levelled four minutes after the restart through Joe Danby but Brody Robertson chipped the Pikes keeper Toby Wells to restore the lead for the visitors after 64 minutes.

Danby again levelled matters four minutes later as Hackworth’s men held on to force extra time. They had a great chance to win the game in added on time, too, but Billy Logan headed Frank Belt’s cross too close to Brad Beattie in the Cleethorpes’ goal and the keeper managed to tip the ball over the bar.

Cleethorpes’ winner came four minutes into the first period of extra time, when Jonathan Oglesby headed in Robertson’s cross to put his side into the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Scarborough Athletic had a superb 3-2 win at mid-table Burscough on Saturday to get their push for a play-off place back on track.

The result, coupled with other results and other games being postponed, lifted Boro back up to fourth.

The Seadogs went two up in the opening half-hour with goals by Thomas Corner and Matthew Plummer.

The hosts pulled one back through skipper Paul Williams’ free-kick, but, within a minute, James Ghaichem scored from close range to restore his side’s two-goal advantage.

In the second half, Burscough came back with a goal by defender Nick Ryan after 61 minutes, but the Seadogs held out, despite Ghaichem being sent off late on.

This Saturday, Boro host 11th-placed Clitheroe, who drew 1-1 on Saturday at home to Ossett Albion.

Whitby Town finally returned to winning ways in the Evo-Stik League premier division on Saturday as they came from behind to beat Rushall Olympic.

The 2-1 win in front of a crowd of 179 was their first of 2015 and saw them complete their first league double of the season.

The visitors took the lead through Aaron Williams two minutes before half-time, but Steven Snaith equalised after 73 minutes with a fine header.

Six minutes later, Whitby grabbed the points when Dale Hopson fired home from 18 yards.

This result lifted Whitby above Olympic into 13th.

This Saturday, the Blues travel to Nantwich Town who are down in 19th.
