SCARBOROUGH District Motor Club struck a biting cold, sleet-driven day for their Harwood Dale trial on Sunday - but Kirkbymoorside starlet Dan Peace was in hot form.
Peace, a national youth ace, gave a fantastic ride to edge the win in the experts class by two marks from fellow British Trials Championship contender Billy Bolt.
Every observer deserved praise in this weather for sticking to their posts, but riders did not hang about, with Peace suffering for this. In the early round, he was first to attack the huge leap of faith across the gully on the seventh hazard, slamming into the bank-side for a five-mark penalty. Bolt arrived later, added a few extra miles per hour and fired up for a superb clean.
But he lost three on the massive slippy boulders of seven where Peace had a determined hang-on ride on the first lap to go unpenalised and earn the win.
Wombleton’s Shane Monkman missed the runner-up berth in the intermediate class by two marks to finish behind Scarborough duo Andy Lockwood and Mark Taylor.
