WOMBLETON rising star Shane Monkman was edged out of a fine first place in Middlesbrough District Motor Club's latest trial held at Guisborough DMC's practice ground at Charltons.
There was a good turn-out of 60 riders but Scarborough's James Carr was the lone entry in expert class, so scooped the easiest premier win of his career.
This left the main battle to be in intermediate class between two of the best up and coming riders in the centre, in Guisborough`s Paul Wheatley and Monkman, who are both striving hard for the class wins that will see them gain expert status.
Wheatley edged it by two marks due to his unpenalised ride on the slippery rock steps. Monkman lost three there, but fought back with the best ride of the day on the treacherous iced over rocks of section four, losing 12 here to Wheatley's 18.
