PLAYER-OF-THE-MATCH Anna Aspery was the match-winning heroine as Pickering twice came behind to beat Ben Rhydding IV in their first Yorkshire Women’s League division five match after a five-week break.

Pickering trailed 1-0 and 2-1 against the run of play before turning things round to win 3-2.

Pickering, despite an efficient zone defence, fell 1-0 down but pushed forward and had several shots saved by the keeper, before Megan Williams finally found the net from close quarters.

Pickering dominated the rest of the first half but were unable to score again. They took greater risks on the resumption, throwing more into attack.

However, the keeper again proved their nemesis and a quick break found the hosts on their back foot, for Ben Rhydding to retake the lead.

Pickering continued to work hard with Lucy Collier a great pivot in midfield while Aspery worked tirelessly down the right to open the defence.

After several corners and forays into the circle, Lisa Oxendale slotted home the equaliser.

Lauren Dobson and Elena Storey continued to be terriers in midfield, chasing any loose balls and worrying the opposition into mistakes, and this provided Aspery the opportunity to score the winner.

Old Malton, meanwhile, picked up only one point from their weekend double-header in the Yorkshire Men’s League premier division.

They crashed 5-0 at home to Leeds III on Saturday before drawing 3-3 at home to Rotherham on Sunday.
