THE Ryedale League was resuming this week after the festive break with Ryedale ‘A’ holding a commanding 17-point lead in division ‘A’.

Team members James Rule and Steve Oldfield are still unbeaten and have an aim to go through the entire season with a 100 per cent record - a feat not achieved by any player for a number of years.

Coneysthorpe ‘A’, Helmsley ‘A’ and Amotherby ‘A’ head the chasing pack, while Ryedale ‘D’ remain bottom, still without a win but in determined mood to upset someone’s apple cart.

In division two, Hutton-le-Hole ‘A’ have their sights set on promotion but this is a competitive division with twists and turns expected.

Eleven points behind but with a game in hand lie Amotherby ‘B’, who will be eyeing a play-off position at the very least after performing consistently well. Any slip-up and teams from Swinton and Ryedale will be looking to pounce.

Division three remains wide open with only 10 points separating first from fourth - testimony to the standard of table tennis played in Ryedale.

FERA and Ryedale Laundry are joint top with 65 points followed by Hutton-le-Hole ‘B’ on 61 and Westow on 55, both having a match in hand.

Meanwhile, the Ryedale League annual closed tournament will be held at Norton College Sports Centre on Sunday, February 8, at 9.15am.

The closing date for entries is January 24. Details and copies of entry forms are available at www.tabletennis365.com/ryedale or by phoning Howard Mayne on 07711 979816.
