THE Derwent Valley League is set to be reduced to two divisions in 2015 after the spate of resignations this year.

The new format is to be proposed by the league committee at the DVL's annual general meeting, which will be held on Tuesday, January 27 at 7.30pm at Ayton Sports Association - the home of Forge Valley Cricket Club - in East Ayton.

Six teams resigned from the league last season, with Whitby 3rds' recent resignation making it seven this year, while two - Flamborough and Great Habton, who finished first and second in the top tier - will be going up to the Readers Scarborough Beckett League, with none coming down.

That leaves 21 teams for the DVL and it is proposed to have 10 teams in division 'A' and 11 in division 'B'.

Those in division 'A' will play each other home and once away, as in previous years, while teams in division 'B' will also play 18 games - each team at least once and certain teams twice.

If the proposals are accepted, division 'A' will comprise Muston, who finished third last season, Lockton, who came fourth, Forge Valley 3rds, Hospitals/Rugby Club, Sewerby 3rd, who came sixth, seventh and eighth respectively, Flixton 3rds, last term's division 'B' champions, and Wold Newton 2nds, Kirkbymoorside 2nds, Filey 2nds and Sherburn 2nds, who finished second, third, fourth and fifth in division 'B' respectively.

Division ‘B’ will comprise Nawton Grange 2nds and Snainton, who remain from division 'B', and Cayton 3rds, Scalby 3rds, Muston 2nds, Ravenscar 2nds, Valley Bar Nomads, Wykeham, Thornton Dale 2nds, Ganton 2nds and Forge Valley 4ths, who respectively finished first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth in division ‘C’.

Valley Bar Nomads will this year revert back to playing their home games at Oriel Crescent in Scarborough.

Forge Valley 3rds and 4ths will play their home games at their West Ayton ground. Hospitals/Rugby Club will play home matches at Scarborough Rugby Club's headquarters between Scalby and Burniston villages.

Cayton 3rds will play at the McCain’s sports field between Cayton and Osgodby villages, and Scalby 3rds will play home games at their ground between Scalby and Burniston villages.

Dates and venues for three other local cricket leagues' annual general meetings have been set.

The Readers Scarborough Beckett League's meeting will be on Wednesday, January 21 at 7.30pm at the Downe Arms, Wykeham, when their 2014 merit awards winners will be presented.

The Andy Hire Scarborough Evening League AGM will follow on Monday, February 2, at 7.30pm at Scarborough Cricket Club, North Marine Road.

The Greenwood Hire Derwent Valley Junior League AGM will be two days later, on Wednesday, February 4 at 7.30pm at Sherburn Sports Pavilion.

The Andy Hire League AGM is set to ratify a proposal to cut the number of fixtures in division 'C' to 14, to tie in with the other divisions.

There will be 11 teams in this tier so teams will play each other at least once and some teams twice.

No teams are to be relegated from division ‘B’ due to Oriel’s resignation last season and Flixton ‘B’s for the coming season.

Division 'A' is to comprise Staxton ‘A’, Ebberston ‘A’, Heslerton, Flixton ‘A’, Seamer ‘A’, Wykeham ‘A’ and promoted pair Scalby ‘A’ and Sherburn.

Division ‘B’ will consist of relegated Forge Valley ‘A’ and Cloughton ‘A’, along with Ganton, Scarborough, Filey, Cayton ‘A’, and promoted pair Ebberston 'B' and Scalby 'B'.

Division ‘C’ will comprise Ravenscar, Staxton ‘B’, Wykeham ‘B’, Muston, Cayton ‘B’, Forge Valley 'B', Snainton, Seamer ‘B’, Valley Bar Nomads, Wykeham ‘C’ and Cloughton ‘B’.

Valley Bar Nomads will stage home games at Oriel Crescent in 2015, and Wykeham 3rds' home will remain at Snainton.
