OLD Malton St Mary’s moved four points clear of Riccall United at the top of the York Minster Engineering Football League premier division after a 5-1 triumph over Poppleton United.

Dean Nuttall scored twice for Saints to add to goals from player manager Darren Dunning, Damon Cox and Robert Baker.

Tadcaster Magnets, the team best positioned for an assault on the Ryedale side’s crown, lost a little momentum after a goalless draw with Church Fenton White Horse.

Wigginton Grasshoppers avenged recent defeats at the hands of Dunnington with a 1-0 win over their rivals. Grasshoppers, who suffered a 4-2 league defeat and a 3-1 York FA Saturday Senior Cup loss to the hosts, took all three points when Eddy Clapham’s corner found its way into the net with five minutes remaining.

Dringhouses beat York RI 5-1. James Robinson’s 30-yard screamer put the hosts ahead before Liam Keenaghan levelled from the spot.

Sam Ripley-Kitson headed Houses into a half-time lead before Keenaghan missed a second spot kick shortly after the break. From then on, it was all Dringhouses as Wilson Briggs (2) and Dave Watson completed the scoring.

With 20 minutes remaining, Harrison Signs were odds-on to complete an away victory over Copmanthorpe, leading 4-2 and in control. However, a late twist in a superb game saw the home side emerge supreme as they bagged four goals in the latter stages to record a 6-4 win.

Cop’s goalscorers were Daniel Pedras (2), Jake Moyse, Mark Featherstone, Matt Pallister and Jack Scott, while Cameron Sanderson (2), Neil Fryars and Rob Hutton bagged for Signs.

A first half goal from Chris Rhodes settled the game between Easingwold and Terrington Glory in the latter’s favour.

There were goals galore in division two as three games produced 19 strikes.

Leaders Rawcliffe were held to a 3-3 draw by bottom of the table Bishop Wilton, for whom Tom Knowles, Joshua Knowles and Darren Woodhead grabbed the goals.

Barmby Moor drew 3-3 with visitors Sporting Knavesmire following a goalless first half. Liam Booth and Shaun Elvidge (2) were on target for the home side.

Ouseburn overcame Bishopthorpe 4-3.

In division three, second-placed Moor Lane went down 2-0 at Huby, whose scorers were Ewan McNab and Joe Broughton.

Daniel Witcombe, Rob Murphy and Dan Phillips struck to give Rufforth a 3-1 victory at Crayke.

Huntington WMC beat Wheldrake 5-0 in division four with goals from Dan Hunter, Mo Rahman (2), Callum Hannigan, from a free-kick, and Jamie Kirby, from the spot.

Dave Phelan grabbed the only goal as Melbourne beat Cawood.
