KIRKBYMOORSIDE’S British youth ‘A’ champion, Dan Peace, had to settle for third place when competing in the expert category at Scarborough District Motor Club’s Cliff Collinson National trial on Sunday.

He was beaten by Denby Dale’s rising trials star, 16-year-old Jack Price, who lifted the trophy after a fantastic battle to hold off a spirited fightback from Scarborough’s Michael Brown - the 2013 British Trials champion and number two this year - to win by just one point. Peace was nine marks further back.

Brown lost ground with five marks lost on sections two, eight and 11 to finish his first lap on 15, equal with Malton’s Ian Austermuhle.

He went round the second time remarkably dropping only one mark but it was not enough, Price having posted an incredible first lap of just four marks lost which eventually proved vital.

Kirkbymoorside’s Jack Peace, Dan’s brother, won youth ‘A’ class and his score would have been good enough to head the intermediate class with a loss of just seven marks. Hutton-le-Hole’s Tom Wood was edged off the podium in that intermediate category, finishing fourth.
