ROSEDALE and Union Rovers both recorded only their second newitts.com Beckett League first division victories of the season.

Rosedale beat Ryedale Sports Club reserves 4-1 at home after Matty Gardner had fired Ryedale into an early lead. Dale fought back to lead 3-1 at the interval through Sam Knowles, Jono Thompson and Tim Hodgson and Tom Bell added the fourth soon after half-time.

Gardner was Ryedale’s man of the match, with left-back James Smith getting Rosedale’s award.

Union Rovers surprised Slingsby, handing the hosts only their second league defeat of the season.

Visitors Union took a three-goal first-half lead through Ben Webster, Sam Appleton and Luke Dawson, who added his second early in the second half.

Slingsby, though, hit back with two goals midway through the half by Scott Simson to set up a nervous last 15 minutes for Rovers.

Daryl Craggs and Joe Brown stood out for Slingsby, Luke Dawson for Union.

Snainton reserves returned to the top of the second division after edging a seven-goal thriller at Stillington Sports & Social Club.

James Wilson put Snainton ahead but Stillington led 2-1 at the interval after goals by Steve Johnson and Nathan Hussain.

Snainton scored three goals in the second half to lead 4-2 - James Wilson, Nick Ellis, with a fine header, and Sam Collins on target.

Fifteen minutes from time, Hussain scored his second goal to bring Stillington back into the game, but Snainton held on to their slender lead in an end-to-end finale.

Oliver Everard, for Stillington, and Snainton striker Wilson were the men of the match.

Pickering Knights moved up into third with a 1-0 home win against Settrington reserves - the only goal of the game coming from Steve Carter 10 minutes from time.

Knights left-winger Will Hodgson and Setty goalkeeper Victor Kovacs starred for their respective sides.
