SCARBOROUGH ATHLETIC finance chief Geoff Osguthorpe has warned supporters that crowds must improve - or budgets will have to be cut.

The director was speaking as the team recovered from a thumping loss to beat Ossett Town 2-0 in the Evo-Stik first division north last Saturday.

The Seadogs had been beaten 4-1 at Spennymoor Town in midweek, with Gary Bradshaw netting what turned out to be no more than a consolation goal.

But they bounced back to form on familiar home ground - Ryan Blott opening the scoring after 36 minutes and Bradshaw completing the victory in the final minute - as they moved to fifth in the table.

Last night, Athletic were entertaining Brigg Town in the Doodson Sport Cup and, on Saturday, they are at home to third-placed Farsley (3pm).

The club’s break-even figure for home games is believed to be 380, a figure that has been reached recently, and the club, who play their home matches at Bridlington, could have to cut the wages of “high earners” if more fans don’t pass through the turnstiles.
