WHITBY TOWN secured their first victory of the Evo-Stik League premier division season when they beat fellow strugglers Belper Town 2-0.

They secured the valuable three point haul with a goal in each half. Two minutes before half-time, Liam Shepherd started a move that ended with an unmarked Craig Farrell find the net with the aid of a deflection off Dan White.

Twenty three minutes into the second period Richard Pell ensured the Blues would get the victory.

The result followed a creditable point following a 3-3 draw at Trafford the previous Tuesday. Their goals came in the first half from a Craig Farrell brace and David McTiernan.

Whitby entertain Ramsbottom United tonight (Wednesday, kick off 7.45pm) and go to Shildon on Saturday in the FA Cup first qualifying round. It could prove a difficult journey, with Shildon third in the first division of the Northern League with 14 points from their seven league games played,

Seadogs moving up

SCARBOROUGH Athletic are up to third place in the first division North in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League after coming from a goal down to beat Prescot Cables 2-1.

After earlier hitting the post with a Gary Bradshaw header and had a shot cleared off the line, it was the visitors who took the lead through Sam Calvert's header two minutes before half-time.

The Seadogs got on top in the second half when Bradshaw equalised with seven minutes remaining before an injury time penalty, netted by Jordan Thewlis, gave them the spoils.

Scarborough travel to Ashington on Saturday in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup. They needed penalties to beat North Shields after the game ended 4-4 following extra-time. The shoot-out was a 4-2 success.
