REIGNING winter league champions Derwent Arms ‘B’ were knocked out of the Malton & Norton League’s summer tournament at the quarter-final stage.

Arms were beaten 4-3 by Union ‘B’, who set up a semi-final against Bright Steels ‘A’, the latter having gained club bragging rights with a 5-2 win over Bright Steels ‘B’.

Elsewhere, there were no shock results but there were a few scares for the leading teams.

The sole remaining division ‘B’ side, Railway Tavern, put up a fantastic fight against Malton Cons but narrowly missed out on a semi-final berth by one frame in a 4-3 defeat.

Royal Oak ‘A’ went into their match against Hyde Park ‘B’ as favourites but likewise did not have everything their own way as they too won 4-3.

The semi-finals are to be played this coming Monday (August 4) at the usual time of 8.30pm. Bright Steels ‘A’ face Union ‘B’ at the Malton Con Club, while Malton Cons meet Royal Oak ‘A’ at Bright Steels.

The final will be held the following Monday, along with the men’s and ladies’ individuals showdowns, at Bright Steels, starting at 7.30pm.
