Lacrosse: Fit-again Freya’s county call

Freya Peckitt Freya Peckitt

FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD lacrosse starlet Freya Peckitt has been selected for the Yorkshire Under-19s squad just two months after coming back from an eight-and-a-half-month injury lay-off.

Fellow Ampleforth College pupil Julia Gargan, 16, has also been named in the squad.

Back in 2010, Peckitt represented Yorkshire U15s when she was 13 years old, before gaining a place in the England regional lacrosse development programme in July 2011. She picked up the knee and ankle injury that kept her out for a sustained period at the annual England regional lacrosse tournament in October 2011, and was only given permission by her physiotherapist to begin back in full sport in July.

She attended an England regional training camp in August before being invited to trial for the Yorkshire U19s, along with Gargan.
