Records tumble at Malton School’s sports day

Seven records were smashed at Malton School ’s sports day.

Annabelle Francis set a new Year 9 girls 200 metres record of 28.3 seconds, beating a previous best of 29.7 by L Pay in 1978.

Lauren Simpson set a Year 10 girls’ 300m record in 50.15 seconds, beating Nicole Butterworth’s 2007 time of 51.09, while Christiana Pain smashed the Year 10 girls’ 800m record in a time of two minutes 47.90 seconds, previously set at 2-48.16 by Jemima Hetherton in 1994.

Matthew Woollons equalled the Year 9 boys’ 400m record of one minute eight seconds, set by A Wing in 1984.

Stephanie Bromley matched the Year 8 girls’ high jump record of 1.35 metres, set by Francesca Hall in 2005, and Robbie Holmes equalled the Year 8 boys’ high jump record of 1.43 metres, set by Alex Caine in 2009.

The Year 8 ‘Air’ house girls’ team also equalled the record for the 4x100 metres relay, in 60.05 seconds.
