3:13pm Wednesday 20th June 2012 in Junior Sport
Pickering Under-15s ‘A’ failed to get going as they lost at Cayton U15s in Greenwood Hire Derwent Valley Junior League division ‘A’.
Cayton set a target of 118-3 with J Brown, G Worthy and R Woodhead all retiring on 25. Gareth Skelton (2-24) and Kieran Boyes (1-23) took the wickets.
Pickering’s innings never got lift-off as they were bowled out for 52, George Worthy (3-12), Ryan Woodhead (2-7) and Joel Boyer (2-20) doing the damage. Only Matthew Butler (13) and Josh Gorman (11) reached double figures.
Malton & Old Malton U15s hit 121-3 to see off Ovington, who were all out for 56. Malt captain Shaun Harland retired on 52 and Morgan Fraser made 20. In reply, Ovington lost a wicket in the second over and things didn’t get much better due to excellent bowling particularly from Ryan Gaughan (2-2 off four over) and Marcus Brigham (2-21 off four).
Harland, pictured, was also a star for North Yorkshire U14s in two recent contests.
The 13-year-old, who also plays for Scarborough District U15s, was joint top-scorer on 31 not out when batting at number seven on his North Yorks debut against Yorkshire ‘B’ 31. North Yorks made 150-7 though Yorkshire ‘B’ won with 188.
He then scored 12 not out from number five and took 1-10 off three overs as North Yorks made 159-3 to beat Durham, who made 120.
Pickering U13s ‘A’ were beaten by nine wickets by Forge Valley U15s in Derwent Valley Junior League division ‘C’ after setting only 42-8.
However, they beat the same opponents in the Division ‘C’ Cup semi-final after Valley could only muster 36-9 as Jonnie Bayes (3-0) and James Mudd (2-2) ran through the top order.
R Hodgson (3-10) made Pickering work hard for a four-wicket win which sets up a final against Bridlington ‘B’ on July 2.
Pickering U11s ‘A’ beat Driffield in their League Cup quarter-final, and they now meet Scarborough in the semi-finals on Friday night.
Daniel Ward (23) and Matt Shepherd (10) top scored as Pickering made 255-6. Driffield ended on 243-8 as Shepherd and Joe Harland claimed two wickets each and Ward took three catches.
Scarborough U11s ‘A’ beat Pickering U11s ‘C’ by 64 runs in their quarter-final.
Pickering U11s ‘A’ continued their unbeaten run with a 40-run victory at Seamer.
Seamer scored 239-4 as the Pikes bowled tightly and fielded really well. Pickering ended their innings on 279-3 as Rory Leonard top scored with 13 not out. Owen Cowton (11) and Matt Shepherd (10no) also contributed.
