Daniel Ward, from Kirkbymoor-side, and Sebastian Grace, from Ampleforth, have been selected to play for Yorkshire Under-11s ‘B’ team.

Ward, who plays for Pickering U13s, and Grace, who plays for Sessay U11s, both play for Scarborough Lord Taveners U11s and also North Yorkshire U11s.

They were presented with their county caps by Yorkshire U11s manager Mark Loker at Aysgarth School.

Ward, an all-rounder, was selected for the Yorkshire Cricket Board’s Pathways to Excellence programme in York over the winter and Grace, a batsman, also came through trials.

Their first game for the county is tomorrow (Thursday) at Houghton Main CC against Nottinghamshire.

Meanwhile, opener Matthew Butler led the way as Malton & Old Malton U15s stormed to a 10-wicket cup victory against Osbaldwick.

Butler (36 not out) and Shaun Harland (23no) saw Malt home in less than ten overs. Strong two-over spells from Toby Sercombe (2-8) and Morgan Fraser (1-10) had kept Osbaldwick in check earlier.

Malton & Old Malton U13s won their cup clash with Clifton Alliance by eight runs.

Jack Charters (31 ret) and Matthew Watson (30 ret) helped to establish a target of 117, and Josh Berry (1-6) and Bradley Freer (2-13) saw Malton to victory with tight four-over spells.

Malton & Old Malton intermediates lost by 76 runs to Woodhouse Grange.

Matthew Hodgson (3-29) and Brett Crowe (2-24) stemmed the runs but Grange made 216-8. In reply, Harland hit 43 and Tom Hodgson 31.
