Junior Cricket round-up
3:35pm Friday 11th May 2012 in Junior Sport
Malton & Old Malton’s Under-13s started this season where they left off last term in winning ways, beating Selby by 22 runs.
Malton accumulated 104-7, with Mathew Watson (32 retired) and Josh Berry (30 ret) the stand-out batsmen. Edward Reeves chipped in with a useful 15.
Berry then took 1-3 off two overs and Kieran Windress 1-9 off three to dismiss Selby’s openers thanks to great catches from Windress and Sammy Heslop.
Nathan Youngs retired on 31, giving Selby hope, but Malton’s Watson (2-12 off four) took the next two crucial wickets.
Malton & Old Malton hosted a preliminary round of the York & District’s U13s six-a-side competition with teams from Sheriff Hutton Bridge, Osbaldwick and a development side from Stamford Bridge joining them in a fine afternoon of cricket.
The talented Malton team won all of their matches to finish top, with Osbaldwick second, taking them into the finals in August.
