School cricket: Abbey’s ace but Norton win
3:34pm Friday 11th May 2012 in Junior Sport
ABBEY FREDERIKSON, from West Heslerton Primary School, was the standout player in the KS2 Kwik Cricket Tournament at Malton & Old Malton CC – but it was Norton CP who took the title.
Eight teams – from Rillington, Amotherby, St Mary’s, Langton, Malton CP, West Heslerton, Norton CP and a combined team from Terrington and Foston – competed for the Harrison Hire Shield, in a competition organised by the Ryedale and Whitby Sports Partnership and umpired by school sports leaders from Norton College and Malton School.
Frederikson stood out not only for her ability and determination but also her team spirit and encouraging others – and was duly given the Fair Play Trophy.
Some of the matches were extremely close and it all ended with Norton as the eventual winners and Foston/Terrington the runners-up. This pair go through to the area final later this month.
