Malton & Norton Under-17s did the double over Hull Ionians.
Ionians were determined to avenge their earlier defeat at The Gannock but, in the return league fixture, Malton dug in, absorbed the Hull pressure and won 22-7.
Danny Boddy crossed in the corner for an unconverted try early on and, although Ionians then pegged Malton back into their own 22 for a spell, they failed to come away with points.
Malton dominated the second period, Jack Howarth, Will Witty and Joel Walton all crossing for well-worked tries, with James Bulmer adding a conversion.
Ionians scored a converted try in reply. Mike Whitton had an outstanding game in a dominant pack.
Malton & Norton U14s lost in the Yorkshire Plate semi-final for the second year in succession – falling 26-10 at Skipton.
Skipton started the stronger of the two sides, but Malton managed to soak up the opposition’s charges and replied with a breakaway try for Ben Tenge. Skipton’s hard running forwards started to make inroads into the Malton defence and scored two tries, one of which was converted, in two minutes. They increased their lead with another try and conversion shortly before half-time.
Malton managed to close the gap early in the second half with a long range try from Lucian Watts.
But, despite Skipton having a man sent off for foul play, they were hurt by poor handling and superb goal line defence from their opponents and didn’t make the advantage tell. Skipton broke out and scored to break the hearts of the Malton lads.
