Depleted Malton & Norton youngsters push Colts League leaders close

A DEPLETED Malton & Norton Under-17s lost 30-15 at Yorkshire Junior Colts League leaders Heath.

Despite having some players on county duty, Heath were still a strong crew and were pushed hard all the way by the visitors who gave everything from start to finish.

Their tries came through James Bulmer, Jack Howarth and Rob Dempsey.

Malton & Norton U14s’ season keeps getting better after they secured a stunning 20-19 victory at close rivals Pocklington.

The home side took the lead when a wayward Malton pass was intercepted by the fly-half but Lucian Watts outpaced the defence to touch down and Tom Nesfield opened his account after supporting another strong run.

When Dan Ingham galloped into the corner it was 15-7 at half-time.

Good support play from Tom Thorn paid dividends as he bullocked his way over the line but, although Pocklington came back into it with two tries, Malton were able to close out the game with further strong work in the loose. Angus Bulmer was man of the match.

Malton & Norton U13s won 34-27 at Pocklington.

Will Fordy scored two tries and was followed by Charlie Corner and Toby Wrightson. But, having established a commanding lead, Malton became disjointed in the second third of the game and Pock scored four tries without reply.

Malton got back on top in the third part of the match, Fordy scoring his third and fourth scores, and it was a great win against a much larger side.

Malton & Norton U9s took the lead against a very impressive Ripon squad in their game last week through Alastair Keen, but Ripon came back strongly to win 5-1.

Coaches David Newman and Gerry Rogerson rallied the troops resulting in better team play in the second game, with fine passing and rucking.

Ollie McBeath was spectacular with some fearless running. Welch opened the scoring followed by Guy Scothern and Connor Saxby in the first half. In the second half, Dan Mullaney’s try brought a 4-3 win.
