Junior Football round-up

beaten 5-2 by a strong Poppleton team in their first game of 2012.

The hosts dominated early play with Cormac Hopkinson making the goalkeeper save well and James Sturdy heading just over.

But poor defending allowed Pop to take the lead with a tap-in and, although Hopkinson levelled with a well-taken goal, the visitors went 4-1 up by the interval.

Pop added to their tally before Brooklyn rallied, being the better team for the last 20 minutes, with Hopkinson, twice, and Ryan Cooper going close and Nathan Jackson having two good chances before a great cross from Cooper was headed home by Jamie Scott.

Midfielder Brett Crowe was Brooklyn’s man of the match.

Jordan Thackeray and Jack Simpson (2) were on target as Kirkbymoorside U14s won 3-0 at Heslerton U14s.

Brooklyn U14s trailed early on to Bishopthorpe before going ahead through Morgan Fraser’s stinging 25-yarder and James Barrett’s closerange goal. Liam Wheeler had also shot just over. But Bish equalised with a great strike and scored the third on the breakaway.

Stand-out performers for Brooklyn were Ryan Gaughan, Fraser and man-of-the-match Jared Pickering.

Ryan Watson hit four goals, with Ryan Mintoft (2), Jack Coldbeck, Archie Barns and Keelan Simpson also on target in Kirkbymoorside U13s’ 9-0 win over Hunmanby.

Brooklyn U12s were hit by a sucker punch as a late free-kick saw Hamilton Panthers win 1-0 with their only real chance of the game.

Brooklyn midfielder Josh Carter had a first-half goal disallowed for offside, and they were unlucky not to score in the second when a fantastic cross by midfielder Josh Wade was narrowly missed by Oli Farrow.

Defenders Tom Mooring, Joe Tetlow and full-back James Allan impressed, while striker Stephen Kerr worked hard but could not get through for a strike on goal.

There was not much to separate Old Malton U11s and Tadcaster Albion for the first 15 minutes before Sam Mann fired Malt ahead to kickstart a 4-0 win.

Harry Bennet and Tom Jenkins hit the woodwork but second-half goals came from man-of-the-match Bennet, latching onto a Jake Wiles shot, Wiles himself, and Theo Wilkie, with a perfectly-timed diving header from a superb Wiles cross.

An Eathan Crusher goal was only consolation in Kirkbymoorside U10s’ 4-1 loss at Scalby U10s.

Brooklyn U9s Lions drew 1-1 with Stamford Bridge U9s ‘A’, Brooklyn scoring through Billy Leach after a good one-two with Thomas Davies.

The second half against the slope saw good performances from Eden Cross in goal, Cameron Mellow, James Barker and man-of-the-match Oliver Tetlow, while Brooklyn had a couple more chances with Rowan Ford and Danny Charters both playing good attacking football, but Bridge’s pressure brought an equaliser.

Brooklyn U9s Tigers saw off Stamford Bridge U9s ‘B’ 9-2. The Bridge goalkeeper made some great saves but the floodgates opened after Billy Chapman’s long-distance shot went into the top corner. Chapman ended with four goals, with Josh Garvey (2), Lewis Saunders and Ben McDonald (2) also netting. Man of the match was Jacob Galloway.

Brooklyn U8s Lions won 2-1 at Osbaldwick ‘A’ with top-scorer Ollie Towse getting both goals, Matty Lock working well to set up the winner.

Ethan Oakes dominated midfield with Dylan Dykes and Joe O’Brien both impressing. The second game saw Brooklyn lose 2-2 despite a manof- the-match display from ’keeper Andy Cook and a good show from captain Will Lightfoot.

Brooklyn U8 Tigers borrowed a player from Osbaldwick ‘B’ to make up the numbers and drew 1-1. Tigers scored first with an own goal. Max Farrow and Cameron Clive were solid in defence. Brooklyn dominated the second game and scored through their Osbaldwick loanee, Josh Mcburnie (2) and Shauna Yates.

Farrow starred throughout.

OLD Malton U10s ‘A’ produced a hard-working performance to start the new year with a 4-1 win at York RI.

Malt created a number of firsthalf chances but were unable to beat the goalkeeper, while at the start of the second half Aziz Kir produced an excellent save to keep RI at bay.

Malton finally scored when a Lewis Pople corner was deflected in. Man-of-the-Match Patrick Jackson then hit a quick-fire hattrick.

A solid team performance gave Old Malton U10s ‘B’ a 5-0 win over York RI ‘B’ with goals from Arthur Rees, Joseph Matique and manof- the-match Lysander Jones.

Pickering Town U10s ‘A’ won 2-0 at Wilberfoss. Matty Nicholson, Harry Coldbeck and Tom Wright, with a header from a George Ridler corner, went close, before Wright won the ball on the edge of the box and played in Jordan Anderson who turned and shot home.

Two minutes after the break Nicholson intercepted a misplaced Wilberfoss pass and fed Wright, who fired an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net from well outside the area. Hector Denny was solid in defence and goalkeeper Matthew Ridley didn’t have a save to make.

Pickering U10s ‘B’ lost 3-1 at Wilberfoss. Pikes trailed 2-0 before Zameze Deans bagged a well taken goal. Pikes player-of-themonth Max Fowler and Ryan Hugill stood out.
