BROOKLYN Under-16s rued poor finishing as they crashed out of the York League Cup with a 6-1 secondround loss at York RI.
The scoreline did not do Brooklyn’s performance justice, as they went close several times and found the RI goalkeeper, and his defence, in excellent form.
Brooklyn fell behind within two minutes and, although a determined solo effort from Ryan Cooper levelled the scores, a defensive error again allowed RI to score a second before the interval.
A contentious on-side decision by the referee saw RI get a third, and two good finishes, plus an own goal from the helpless James Sturdy, sealed the result.
Brett Crowe was Brooklyn’s player of the match, while Josh Coulson, Ryan Cooper and Rob Ruston also impressed.
Jez Underwood and Bradley Spink were on target as Kirkbymoorside U16s drew 2-2 at Scholes Park.
Standout performances came from Ryan Gaughan and man-of-the-match Jared Pickering as Brooklyn U14s won 3-0 at Wigginton.
Brooklyn started slowly and needed a great save from Nick Lock to keep it goalless, but then Nathan Cross set up Morgan Fraser to score from 20 yards, and the second half was one-way traffic as Brooklyn piled forward.
Arron Dews’s pass saw Cross slot home and, after several chances were missed, a James Barrett piledriver completed the scoring.
Kirkbymoorside U14s won a 5-4 thriller at Scholes Park. Ryan Mintoft (2), Jordan Thackeray (2) and Matty Butler were their marksmen.
Kirkbymoorside U14 Girls beat Wigginton Grasshoppers 2-1 with Alice Hall and Freya Morton on the mark.
A disappointing performance saw Brooklyn U13s lose 5-2 in their table-top clash with Rufforth.
Reece Fletcher and Josh Berry were the Brooklyn goalscorers and Lewis Grainge and Jack Boyd were the pick of their players.
Ryan Watson got Kirkbymoorside U13s’ consolation in a 6-1 defeat by Fishburn Park.
Old Malton U11s won 5-0 at Haxby. Tom Jenkins opened early on before Jake Wiles made amends for a penalty miss by netting the second.
After the break, man-of-the-match Theo Wilkie scored an exceptional header, William Rodger tapped in and Wiles bagged his second.
Pickering Town U11s went ahead at Osbaldwick and later equalised at 2-2 through through Louis Fitton but the hosts won 4-2 with two late goals. Tom Dawson was the Pikes’ star man.
Kirkbymoorside U11s fell to s surprise second defeat of the season by the only goal at Scholes Park, but Jacob Barber (2) and Jake Edwards- Nutton scored as Kirkbymoorside U10s won 3-0 at the Raiders.
Josh Lee brought out a good save from the visitors’ ‘keeper and Lewis Pople struck a post but Old Malton U10s ‘A’ could not find that elusive goal as they were held 0-0 by lowly Haxby Town ‘A’.
Malton ‘keeper Aziz Kir made an excellent save in the last minute to ensure a point. The energetic Patrick Jackson was Malt’s man of the match.
Old Malton U10s ‘B’ had more luck, beating Haxby ‘B’ 3-0.
Nick Audsley scored for Kirkbymoorside U9s but they lost 2-1 to Hunmanby.
