Pickering’s Lady Lumley’s School began their season well when triumphing in the Area Under-19s netball tournament – ace defender Phoebe Maxwell being named player of the competition.

They scored 10 goals in their opener against Whitby Community College, Lauren Scott and Lucy Mulderrig on target and, with fellow attackers Beth Wootton, Chloe Normyle and Amy Collier also doing well, they then beat Scarborough College ‘A’ 11-7, Tessa Knowles and Hannah Bastow defending well.

Alex Walsh and Mia Hall impressed in the concluding 12-4 win over Scarborough College ‘B’.

Ryedale School’s Year 7 rugby union team convincingly won the Ryedale & Whitby School Sports Partnership tournament at Malton & Norton RUFC.

They beat Malton 20-0, Lady Lumley’s 25-5 and Eskdale 35-5 and now go through to the county finals at Driffield in the New Year.

Ryedale School’s students performed well again in the second Scarborough & District Cross Country event at Scalby School.

In Year 7, Tyler Hutchinson was second, Keelan Simpson fifth, Morwenna Davies sixth and Laura Laycock ninth.

In Year 8/9, Liam Dawson was 12th, and, in Year 10/11, Jade Hutchinson was second, Kasia Wilson seventh and Chris Carroll ninth.

More than 100 children from 10 primary schools in the area took part in the annual cross-country run in Leavening, with good weather helping to make for fast times.

Individual winners were Hattie Duree, Noah Jackson, Josh Herlingshaw and Lexy Ilsley, with Leavening and Malton primary schools wining the team events. The Lee Douglas Shield for the best overall team went to Leavening.

The event was organised by the Sports Partnership, led by school sports co-ordinator Cath Stone and marshalled by Norton College young leaders.

Ryedale School hosted an enjoyable Year 1 and Year 2 football tournament organised by 36 young sports leaders.

Helmsley, Nawton, Hovingham and St Hilda’s primary schools took part, with Helmsley finishing as victors and Nawton as runners-up.

Ryedale School’s Year 9 hockey team lost 2-1 on penalty flicks in the first round of the Scarborough & District Cup. The game had finished goalless, with Ryedale goalkeeper Augusta Fullerton Smith outstanding.
