BROOKLYN Under-15s are in the York FA Intermediate (Senior) U15s Minor Cup final - after a penalty shoot-out semi-final success over York Cubs.

The tie finished 1-1, with Brooklyn winning 4-2 on penalties - keeper Ben Pickering the hero with two saves.

Brooklyn, who had home advantage, were at full strength, and gradually began to apply pressure and opened the scoring after 20 minutes.

Luke Scott’s inswinging corner was met by the head of Luke Balderson who forced the ball into the back of the net under pressure from a couple of defenders.

Brooklyn continued to push forward, but, on 35 minutes, they were lucky to keep their lead intact, when, from a free-kick against the run of play, York Cubs hit the bar.

Cubs had the wind advantage in the second half and, despite facing a determined defence, pressure was rewarded with the equalising goal.

Outstanding defending by centre-backs Joe Tetlow and Andrew Tiffney helped Brooklyn to keep the scores level at the final whistle, forcing the shoot-out. Balderson, Oliver Farrow, Tiffney and Scott all scored for Brooklyn, while Pickering saved Cubs’ first penalty with a low diving stop to his right and the fourth, standing his ground and easily catching a spot-kick which was chipped down the middle.

Brooklyn will face Heworth in the final.

After last week’s tremendous display against table-toppers Rawcliffe, York Minor League division one title-chasers Brooklyn U16s put in a relatively lacklustre display against bottom-of-the-table York Cubs before winning 6-4.

The Cubs were gifted an opener but Brooklyn levelled as Baron Gregory burst through and lobbed the keeper. Brooklyn allowed Cubs to retake the lead and, although a wonder strike from man-of-the-match Harvey Townley and a goal by winger Gregory turned things around, they again let the visitors back in to equalise before half-time.

Brooklyn played neater football on the resumption and more chances came from it, Townley notching two well-taken goals to claim a hat-trick.

The visitors replied but Nick Lock sealed the win from close range.

Heslerton U15s Girls lost 2-0 at home to Wetherby, despite a player-of-the-match performance in midfield by Sophie Render.

Kirkbymoorside U14s reached seven heaven at home to Ryedale rivals Pickering Town U14s.

Goals from James Farrow (2), Dan Ward (2), Oliver Magson, Ben Teasdale and Jack Edwards gave the Moorsiders a 7-1 win.

Old Malton U13s edged Poppleton in the York Minor League.

Malt coped well with windy and heavy conditions to keep possession in Poppleton’s half for much of the first half, with any threats dealt with by strong defending from Aziz Kirr.

The second half saw better football, with Joe Barker teaming up well with Ben Ilsley to create chances.

A well-timed pass from Barker saw Lewis Pople tap on to Will Scholefield to finish off nicely.

Kristen Brady was the player of the match as Brooklyn Girls U12s enjoyed a fine 3-0 win at Easingwold in the York Girls League.

Brooklyn took control of the game from the off, creating plenty of chances, and they went ahead through a fine shot by Shauna Yates. The second half saw Brooklyn continue to push forward. Rosie Smith doubled their lead and, on the back of some good passing football, Florence Pegrum got the third.

Heslerton U11s put in a sparkling display to despatch Ayton 6-0 in the Scarborough Minor League.

The visitors struggled to contain Hessy’s movement. Flying winger Logan Craggs opened the scoring, meeting a cross with a crisp strike into the roof of the net, and man-of-the-match Alex Troop and Tom Horsley increased the lead. Sam Owen added a fourth, cutting inside and unleashing a thunderbolt.

Heslerton continued to move the ball well, which allowed David Hebron and Tom Allan to also get on the scoresheet.

UNBEATEN Pickering Town Under-11s secured the York & Ryedale Mitchell League division four crown with a 4-0 victory over York Cubs.

Playing against the wind in the first half, Pickering tried to keep the ball on the floor and, after some good saves from keeper Aaron Brown, a flowing move ended with man-of-the match Charlie Monkman firing in from the edge of the box.

In the second half playing with the wind, Pickering dominated and scored through Nathan Williams, Matty Cooper and George Hodgson.

It was a terrific team display and a fitting way to wrap up the title.

Ever-improving Heslerton U10s dominated against Fishburn Park.

Charlie Richardson worked hard and was unfortunate not to score several times, but midfielder Hayden Williamson did bag a sublime goal from a corner by Riki-Lee Green.

Heslerton U9s were deserved winners against Whitby.

Jalen Welburn saw a great long-range effort hit the bar, but pressure paid off as Oliver Botterill, after an impressive burst forward, saw his shot blocked with the rebound powered home.

Man-of-the-match Max Taylor-Barber, Charlie Swiers and Rio Howden scored for Heslerton U8s at Cayton U8s.

In the second game, strikes from Swiers, Myles Johnson and Beck Hutchinson saw Heslerton home despite a late rally from Cayton. Man of the match was Matthew Moss.

Heslerton U7s had a cracking game at Seamer. Warren Stanton, Oscar Webb and Oliver Dade all went close before Malachey Kendrew found the net for the visitors.

Sammy Taylor Barber made some vital saves, while Stanton and Kendrew starred.

Man-of-the-match Kai Wilson scored for Hessy in the second game.
