OLD Malton Blues Under-13s suffered penalty pain in the North Riding U13s County Cup quarter-finals - losing at Coulby Newham in a shoot-out.

The Thornaby-based hosts opening the scoring but Malton replied quickly as Patryk Jadczuk was fouled in the box and Joe Matique slotted home the spot-kick.

Lysander Jones, playing out of his position at left-back, then soldiered past the defence and finished smartly for a deserved goal.

Coulby, however, fought back. Joe Barker was kept busy in the Malton goal while Aziz Kirr cleared one shot off the line - before the hosts equalised seconds before the end.

The game went straight to penalties - with Coulby winning on the last spot-kick.

Heslerton U7s returned to action after a two-week lay-off in an excellent game against Hunmanby.

The visitors went into the break a goal up but in the second half Heslerton threw everything into the game and a Warren Stanton corner curled into the goal to earn them a deserved draw.

The second game between the sides was decided by a solitary Heslerton goal by man-of-the-match Robbie Maynard.

•  STRIKER Lewis Saunders was the man of the match and the match-winner as Brooklyn Under-12s edged Bishopthorpe 2-1 in the York & Ryedale Mitchell League.

The victory avenged Brooklyn’s only defeat this season, which came in the League Cup.

They had several chances to take the lead but it was Bishopthorpe who went ahead, via an own goal from a free-kick after a rare excursion into the home half.

Saunders levelled on half-time following a Thomas Davies corner, and it was Davies who also set up the winner.

Following a good move down the right, he laid the ball across to Saunders to thump it home.
