YOUNG footballers aged between seven and 12 are being invited to attend an open trial to win a place at York City’s new advanced development centre in Pickering.

The Sky Bet League Two club will stage the trial on Monday, November 17 at Ryedale Sports Centre, where the coaching sessions are to be held.

Everyone Active, who run Ryedale Sports Centre, will run the project jointly with the Minstermen, and the intention is to develop players of all abilities, as well as provide a pathway for talented youngsters to showcase their skills to a professional club with the possibility of joining their academy.

On the scheme, City’s development consultant and former Premier League striker Richard Cresswell said: “It’s a great opportunity for young footballers in the Ryedale and Scarborough areas. We will be delivering a coaching programme which will improve the players’ games and, hopefully, we’ll find players who will make the step up to our academy.”

Further details can be obtained from Tom Sutton at York City, or Ryedale Sports Centre’s Rachel Magson and Andy Hardey on 07743 268027. Registration forms can also be found on City’s academy web page.
