MALTON & NORTON Under-14s were made to work hard by Pocklington before running out 24-12 winners at home.

They started brightly and took an early lead when George Austin-Thompson raced to the posts. Soon after, Archie Johnson attacked the short side and released Matthew Jefferson to race over the try line.

Pocklington hit back with an excellent pick up and run to the posts but Malton scored twice more before the break - Lawrence Blades and Jack Villa-Fordon showing super pace to defeat defenders.

One conversion each from Iain Oakley and Jefferson saw Malton lead 24-7 at half-time.

In the second period Malt struggled after prop George Breese left the pitch. Pock loaned Malton a player, but it was the visitors who took the upper hand and scored the only try of a scrappy half.

A challenging trip to York saw Malton & Norton U13s lose 41-12.

The Ryedale youngsters took an early lead when Adam Finlinson went over on the blind side following good work from Max Wainwright but York hit back with three tries in quick succession.

Before half-time, Malton got a second try - Billy Johnson starting and finishing the move. Finlinson converted the score, and Malton trailed just 15-12 at the break.

York got hold of the game in the second half, though, and scored another four tries for a comfortable win. Oliver Kelsey, Peter Hudson, Wainwright and Thomas Melton-Wright stood out for Malton despite the result.
