RYEDALE pupils have been scoring a string of successes at county-wide sporting events.

Youngsters at Helmsley Primary school hockey team won through the qualifying stages to reach the Ryedale and Scarborough Partnership finals held at Escrick.

PE co-ordinator Ryan Jacobs said the pupils had a successful day taking part in seven matches.

"They were very fortunate to get there considering the other schools involved and really impressed me on the day," he added.

A team of Year 6 netball players at St Mary's RC School in Malton also played at the tournament.

Teacher Diane Carroll said the mixed team of boys and girls done really well.

"They had to get through two heats locally to get to the final," she added.

Children at Settrington Primary School took part in a kwik-cricket tournament with other schools from the Ryedale area.

Held at Norton Primary School, the team of Year Five and Six pupils won through to the finals before taking the winning shield.

Teacher Vera Pettitt, said they were delighted.

"The children did really well considering we are such a small school and were very pleased to win," she added.
