RILLINGTON Primary School were the overall winners when teams from six primary schools took part in the annual Key Stage 2 swimming gala for Malton area schools held at the Derwent Pool in Norton.

Malton County Primary finished as runners-up in the standings, with these top two schools going forward to the represent Malton in the Ryedale & Whitby Sports Partnership finals next month at Ryedale Pool, Pickering.

The event was organised by Cath Stone and sports leaders from Norton College, and the other competing schools were Terrington, Langton, St Mary's and Amotherby. The tournament finished with exciting relay races.

The individual winners, meanwhile, were: girls' breaststroke – Leah Sturdy (Rillington); boys' breaststroke – Harry Walls (Malton); girls' backstroke – Alexandra Marshall (Rillington) and Katy Pearson (Amotherby); ; boys' backstroke – Tony Huntriss (Langton); girls' front crawl – Ella White (St Mary's); boys' front crawl - Arthur Reese(Amotherby).
