FOURTH-PLACED Brooklyn Under-16s completed their York & District Minor League division one campaign with two wins - setting them up nicely for their League Cup semi-final and next Tuesday night's Scarborough & District FA Senior Minor Cup final.

They beat Bishopthorpe 5-1 and Pocklington 2-1.

Against Bishops, and kicking into a strong wind, Brooklyn found themselves penned back for long periods and they were indebted to man-of-the-match keeper Nick Lock, whose handling was perfect, for keeping the scoreline level.

Roles were reversed in the second half, with the home side in control. James Barrett headed in the opener after a great pass from Josh Singleton. He scored a second, running on to a through ball from Matthew Simpson and slotting home, before an Arron Dews header made it 3-0

Bish reduced the arrears with a penalty but Lewis Botham hit a cracking 20-yarder, before Ryan Gaughan completed the scoring with a rasping shot

The victory against Pocklington was hard-fought.

The visitors had the best of a poor first half, and deservedly went ahead after 20 minutes.

But Brooklyn upped their work rate in the second half and equalised when Barrett headed a long ball into the path of man-of-the-match Gaughan, who finished clinically from 12 yards.

The home team continued to press forward and win the game 10 minutes from time, as Brigham scored direct from a free kick wide on the left.

Kirkbymoorside U16s Ladies have sealed their title triumph in the XX League with a 3-2 victory over North Ormesby.

Emily Dowson hit a brace and Meg Green was also on target.

Brooklyn Girls under-11s saved their best performance till last as they beat Fulford 4-0 in their final home game of the York Girls League season.

With the two teams joint second in the table, a close game was expected.

Brooklyn started well and, with Shauna Yates holding the ball well up front, they created some good chances, Florence Pegrum breaking the deadlock.

Fulford pushed forward in the closing minutes of the first half but some strong tackling from defenders Jess Scholefield and Kristen Brady kept the lead intact.

Brooklyn stepped up another gear after the interval and played their best football of the season, with midfielder Millie Crick and sweeper Katie Robinson winning all the 50-50 tackles.

It wasn't long before Brooklyn doubled their lead through Emily Cooper.

The same player for the third when put clear from a fine pass from Pegrum, and Brooklyn ended in style when some great teamwork was finished off by Rosie Smith.

The U16 Senior Minor Cup final at Whitby Town’s Turnbull Ground will be on Tuesday, April 22, at 7pm, between Fishburn Park and Brooklyn.
