PICKERING Town Under-11s have won the York & Ryedale Mitchell League division two title - but only after a major scare in their final game.

The young Pikes fell 5-2 to Rufforth Gliders, a team who have only lost twice all term, and this result opened the door for Easingwold Hawks to snatch the crown from them.

However, the Hawks could only draw 4-4 at Hamilton Panthers, meaning Pickering, who have won 16 of their 20 games, can not be caught at the top.

Coach Keith Johnson said: "They have played some fantastic football this season and deserve the league title. I am very proud of them."

Rufforth led 2-0 at half-time before Toby Dale halved the deficit. The Gliders, though, extended their lead to 5-1 before Isaac Finch at least had the last word.

The team then had an end-of-season trip to Flamingoland thinking the title had gone - only to learn they were the champions at the end of a rollercoaster campaign.

There was joy for Kirkbymoorside U13s, too, as they stormed into the final of the Scarborough & District League Cup thanks to a 4-1 win over Seamer.

Dan Ward (2), Oliver Magson and Ben Teasdale were the goal heroes.

Kirkbymoorside U16s lost 7-3 at Fishburn in the Scarborough & District League, with Ryan Mintoft, Jack Simpson and Tareq Rajab on target for the losers.

Emily Dowson was on the mark as Kirkbymoorside U16 Ladies drew 1-1 at Scarborough Ladies.

Thornton-le-Dale U14s lost 5-4 at Goldsborough United in a Scarborough & District Minor League thriller.

Jimmy Weldon-Bee, Ben Norman, Johnny Ridler and Nathan Konya were all on the scoresheet for Thornton.

A rampant Kirkbymoorside U12s went goal crazy in the Scarborough & District Minor League as they routed an unlucky Pickering Pikes U12s 19-1.

Jake Edwards-Nutton led the way for the Moorsiders with four goals and there was a hat-trick, too, for Thomas Fairburn. Also on target were Jack Biggins (2), Jacob Barabour (2), Lewis Garbutt (2), Ethan Crusher, Joe Johnson, Toby Teasdale, Max Harland, Bruno Maciocia and an own goal.

There were happier faces in the Pickering Town U12s camp as George Ridler's overhead kick put the seal on their 4-1 win over Eastfield.

Town raced into a three-goal half time lead courtesy of a Tom Wright hat-trick. They continued to press in the second half and Ridler added their fourth goal with his spectacular effort. Eastfield bagged a late consolation.

Brooklyn U11 Girls were all smiles also as they enjoyed their biggest win of the season - 7-0 at Goole.

Brooklyn started slowly but broke the deadlock after 10 minutes through Emily Cooper.

She got her second just before half-time and Brooklyn took full control after the interval with all players playing good football.

Player-of-the-match Cooper added two more goals following strikes by Florence Pegrum and Millie Crick. Katie Robinson was then tripped in the box when clean through and, although she hit a post with the penalty, Crick scored her second goal of the game in the ensuing scramble.

Pickering Town U10s came back from 2-0 down inside the first few minutes to earn a 2-2 draw against York Cubs in York Mitchell League division five. George Hodgson and Nathan Williams were their marksmen.

In the second match, Pickering ran out 6-0 winners with four goals from Williams and one each from Hodgson and man-of-the-match Harvey Dixon, his first of the season.
