Ryedale Swimming Club bagged 11 first places and 13 runners-up spots out of 48 races when they travelled to Driffield for the first leg of the Scarborough & District Ridings League season.

A close and competitive gala was won by newly promoted South Holderness with 129 points, with hosts Bridlington second on 115, Ryedale third on 113 and Whitby just one point further back.

Atlanta Dowkes shone for Ryedale in the 12 and under girls' freestyle, winning both the individual race and the medley and freestyle relays with Emily Robson, Abigail Smith and Morwenna Talling.

The 14 and under girls' relay teams of Emily Grayson, Jade Kendrew, Jenny Roberts and Evie Wright also achieved a double first, with Kendrew going on to win her individual 50 metres backstroke.

Jason Robson won the 12 and under boys' breaststroke and butterfly races.

Jamie Hyde and Alex Young, now swimming in the open age group, swam lifetime bests to win their 50m breaststroke races.

Swimming in her first gala, Isobel Mayfield, in the nine and 10 years 25m backstroke, touched first in a very close race.

The girls' open freestyle team of Helen Davies, Lucy Garnett, Elkie Morgan and Alex Young raced their best to finish second in their relay, a result which secured an extra league point.

Meanwhile, 13 Ryedale SC members took part in the annual Kingfishers 'B' and 'C' Grade meet at Scarborough.

On top form in the 14 years age group was Tyler Gaines, who bagged a gold in the 50m breaststroke, two bronze medals in the 50m freestyle and 100m individual medley (IM), and two personal best times.

Dan Towler, in the 12 years age group, picked up a silver in the 50m backstroke and bronze in the 50m breaststroke.

Jonathan Cook, 11 years, swam a lifetime best in the 50m freestyle to earn a silver medal, and he bagged top-six finishes in the 50m backstroke and 100m IM.

Atlanta Dowkes took silver in her 11 years 50m freestyle and collected speeding tickets in the 50m backstroke and 100m IM.

Joseph Grayson knocked two seconds off his best 50m backstroke time to finish second. He was also sixth in the 50m breaststroke and got a speeding ticket in the 100m IM.

Maurice Calton-Seal, in his first open meet, finished second in the 13 years 50m freestyle.

Joe Hall, in the boys' 10 years 50m butterfly, knocked an impressive nine seconds off his personal best to collect a bronze medal.

Anna Bailey finished third in the 12 years 50m breaststroke, while younger brother Alex, his first open meet, collected a speeding ticket in the same race at 10 years boys' level.

Abby Ryder picked up two speeding tickets and two sixth places, Olivia Darrell had two top-six finishes, Harriet Evans swam in every event at 12 years level and was rewarded with a fourth place in the 50m breaststroke, and Martha Calton-Seal, in her first open meet, had a top-10 finish in the 11 years 50m breaststroke.
