MALTON & Norton Under-15s made short of work of Pocklington in a 36-19 success.

Having won the first encounter earlier in the season, Malton were expecting a backlash and Pock had the edge in the early exchanges, driving Malton back at the rucks.

But when Pock knocked on, Josh Wainwright capitalised by using his strength and pace to muscle his way over the line. It was the first of five tries he would score.

Malton took the game by the horns and, with Jamie Knaggs a bulldozing presence, it was inevitable that Wainwright crossed again following a wrap around move.

Knaggs gathered from the restart and swatted Pock players aside as he stormed up the pitch and went under the posts.

Fresh legs brought on at half-time were soon tested as Pocklington carved through the midfield to score, catching Malton on the hop.

It gave the visitors a boost and they got some momentum.

Inspiration for Malton came from Tom Wright, who began a move that ended with Wainwright’s fifth score, before Pock managed a late try.

Malton & Norton U13s played some entertaining rugby in a 53-19 victory over Pocklington. Rob Firby struck first, his unopposed dive over the whitewash being his reward for great support play.

When George Austin-Thompson sprinted clear down the narrow side, Malt were cruising at 10-0.

Pocklington’s fightback showcased their team spirit, with excellent rucking and the silky running of their winger.

The Malton boys rallied to pull away to a half-time lead of 27-12 thanks to tries from Matthew Jefferson, Jack Villa-Fordon and Austin-Thompson.

The second half saw Malt quickly move the ball wide where Joe Browne (two tries), Austin- Thompson and Villa-Fordon were able to extend the home lead. Pock had the last word when their winger romped through a gap for a try under the posts.

Malton’s conversions were shared among Iain Oakley, Matthew Jefferson and Joe Browne.
