MAN-OF-THE-MATCH Ian Kerr hit a hat-trick as Brooklyn Under-15s won 6-1 at Pocklington Town in the York Minor League.

Pocklington came out flying and took an early lead, but good defending kept them out thereafter and classy passing led to Baron Gregory’s leveller.

Both sides played excellent football in the second half with skirmishes in both goalmouths, but Brooklyn came out on top with Kerr’s treble, a goal by Lewis Granger and another from newcomer Keelan Simson.

Brooklyn U13s won 5-1 in their top-of-the-table clash at Woodthorpe to stay at the summit of the York Minor League division two.

A nice pass from Oliver Townley saw Jamie Allen get an early goal to set the scene for the match, and an Allen free-kick after a foul on Will Scholefield made it two after 10 minutes.

Good goalkeeping from Anthony Boyes preserved the lead until Woodthorpe halved it before the interval.

The second half saw good end-to-end football.

Stephen Kerr belted in a long-range free-kick and Scholefield skimmed the bar, while strong defending from Aidan Lumby and Jake Fraser saved the day at the other end.

Allen completed a hat-trick then added a penalty, being named joint man of the match with Fraser.

A depleted Old Malton U13s lost 5-2 to Poppleton Panthers.

Malton worked hard in the first half with debutant Harry Bennett providing an inch-perfect cross for Jake Wiles to convert.

Wiles added a second well-taken strike, but his side still trailed 3-2 at the break and Panthers went on seal victory.

Jordan Anderson was the late goal hero as Pickering Town U12s edged Fishburn Park 2-1 in a top-of-the-table thriller in the Scarborough & District Minor League.

Both teams had first-half chances – Pickering’s Harry Coldbeck seeing the goalkeeper get down well when he was one on one, while Jack Balderson had a good effort blocked.

Tom Wright gave the Pikes the lead straight after the break with a thunderbolt into the top corner. Fishburn then had their best spell with Matthew Ridley in the Pickering goal making a superb double save before the equaliser came from a corner.

Both sides sought the winner and, as the game went into its final minute, Anderson found space inside the box and fired home to clinch the points.

Owen Ellis and Luke Shepherd put in solid performances at the back for Pickering.

Pickering Town U10s were edged 1-0 at Wigginton Greens.

That record looked under threat as Heworth dominated early on but the Pickering defence of Jamie Atkinson, Finlay Johnson and Tom Warriner repelled attacks and Harry Edwards in goal dealt with the long-range efforts.

Pickering took the lead against the run of play when Morgan Kendrew’s well-struck free-kick was parried and Max Harland reacted quickest.

Isaac Finch finished neatly after some quick, short passes and another flowing move saw Harland score again.

The fourth goal came from Fewster, smashing home following a one-two from a corner, and, although Heworth got a deserved reply, Toby Dale, with a cool finish, and Kendrew, with a powerful run and shot, also scored, but the victory was capped by a superb flying save by Edwards.

Brooklyn U11s beat Stamford Bridge U11s 2-0 in division three.

Stamford started well but faced good goalkeeping by Billy Chapman and defensive play by Oliver Tetlow, Cameron Mello and James Barker.

At the other end, Lewis Saunders tapped home after his initial shot was parried. Brooklyn were unable to capitalise on second-half possession until Billy Leech scored in the bottom corner. The man of the match was Joe Boyes.

Heslerton U11s gave arguably their best performance in three years as they returned from a four-week lay-off to beat Hunmanby for the first time in the Scarborough Minor League, winning 3-1.

Hunmanby went ahead but a great move down the left resulted in Roman Butterfield rifling in the equaliser. The move of the game saw Josh Mann break down the right and cross for Ethan Smith to half-volley in.

In the second half, Smith hit his second via a slight deflection.
