BROOKLYN Under-16s were beaten convincingly by York Minor League leaders Poppleton despite the best efforts of man-of-the-match Josh Singleton.

A 25-yard Ryan Gaughan free-kick, which was well saved, was the best Brooklyn could muster in a 3-0 defeat, which saw all the goals conceded as a result of poor defending.

Connor Miles and Kian Stead got Heslerton U13s’ consolations in a 14-2 Scarborough & District Minor League thrashing at the hands of Phoenix with Izzy Fawcett named player of the match.

Old Malton U13s were 2-1 winners in the York Minor League courtesy of a Jack Villa Fordon brace.

They fell behind to Thorpe but Villa Fordon’s persistence in constantly attacking the defence paid off for his first goal when he latched on to Matthew Hopkins’ brilliant slide-rule pass.

With five minutes to go, Villa Fordon grabbed the winner after Old Malton had worn their opponents down.

Zak Thompson’s excellent penalty stop could not save Old Malton U12s from losing to Poppleton.

In an even first half, Malton came closest to breaking the deadlock when Lysander Jones’ effort struck a post just before the interval.

But, after Thompson’s heroics, Poppleton went on to net three times in the space of 12 second-half minutes to clinch victory.

Von Sumsard starred for the Malton team.

Brooklyn U11s Girls overcame Copmanthorpe 3-0 with Florence Pegrum opening the scoring five minutes before the break.

Emily Cooper doubled the advantage and Kristen Brady added a third from the penalty spot.

The player-of-the-match honours went to Rosie Smith.

York & Ryedale Mitchell League table-toppers Pickering U11s maintained their unbeaten home record by defeating Tockwith 3-1.

Toby Dale made an early breakthrough following a goalmouth scramble and, with Sam Booth’s skill down the left wing proving the main outlet for Pikes, their lead was doubled when Sam Jenkins’ defence-splitting pass found Isaac Finch, who slotted the ball home confidently.

A hooked shot by Dale, which was fumbled by the ’keeper, then saw Finch stab the ball in to give the hosts a 3-0 half-time advantage.

In the second period, great defensive work by Jamie Atkinson, Charlie Hancock and Finlay Johnson kept the visitors at bay until Harry Edwards was beaten for the only time following a fierce shot.

Bradley Machent scored the only goal of the game as Old Malton St Mary’s U11s overcame neighbours Brooklyn U11s.

A great run by Miles Rodgers led to the decisive moment with Arthur Rees then sending in a fantastic cross that Machent got his foot to.

Rodgers went on to hit a post and lift another chance over the bar.

The man of the match was Luke Chipman for a solid performance, with goalkeeper Daniel Batcheler also deserving special recognition.

Oliver Tetlow was Brooklyn’s star player with a top defensive display.

Heslerton U10s enjoyed their first-ever win after defeating Hunmanby 5-0.

Tom Owen and Logan Craggs were the standout performers in a close-fought first half with the pair helping to keep a water-tight defence.

After the break, Brad Spiller curled in the first goal direct from a corner.

Man-of-the-match Spiller also completed the scoring and, in between, Charlie Thompson and Sam Owen (2) were on target.

Brooklyn U10s Lions lost 2-0 at Copmanthorpe before drawing 1-1 in a second game thanks to an Ethan Oakes goal.

Oliver Towse was named man of the match for his excellent defending, while goalkeeper Andy Cook also produced some fine saves.

Brooklyn U10s Tigers shot-stopper Jamie Scurry was his team’s top performer during a 4-1 loss against Copmanthorpe ‘B’.

He pulled off several good saves, with Kallum Leogue the Tigers’ marksman.

In the York Mitchell League fifth division, Pickering Town U10s succumbed 12-0 to Tadcaster Albion despite strong performances from twins Nathan and Aidan Stevens.

Goals from Josh Hodgson and Matty Cooper, meanwhile, could not prevent a 3-2 defeat in the second match, with Alex Vasey the man of the match.

Hayden Williams set the standard with his continuous drive and effort during a man-of-the-match performance for Heslerton U9s against Filey Town. Defender Dylan Fawcett also showed enthusiasm and made some great tackles.

Heslerton U8s played their first-ever game, with Brandon McCann on the scoresheet against Scholes Park Raiders and goalkeeper Oliver Harrison the man of the match following numerous saves.

Charlie Swiers and Jack Allardice both bagged braces as Heslerton U7s overcame West Pier 4-3.

The latter also received the man-of-the-match accolade for some top defending, while goalkeeper Harry Richardson safeguarded victory with some fine saves.
