Brooklyn Under-16s paid for a sloppy start as they fell 2-0 to York Cubs in the York Minor League.

Woeful defending gifted Cubs two goals inside 10 minutes and, despite improvement and good displays from Nathan Stannard, Lewis Botham and star man Liam Douthwaite, Brooklyn could not break down the home defence, James Barrett missing their best chance when shooting wide from six yards.

Lewis Grainge, having returned to the field after injury, equalised from a corner as Brooklyn U15s drew 4-4 in a ding-dong game against Poppleton Panthers.

Brooklyn were targeting a hat-trick of wins against Pop, but were instantly put on the defensive before rallying and going ahead through Harvey Townley.

Robbie Butler doubled the lead after some nice football but Poppleton pulled it back to 2-2.

Man-of-the-match Josh Towse regained the lead with a penalty but Brooklyn lost their attacking form and Pop took a 4-3 lead before Grainge had the final say.

Brooklyn U13s suffered their first loss of the York Minor League season, going down 4-2 to Stamford Bridge U13s.

Stephen Kerr put them ahead but nothing else seemed to go in their favour, including a missed penalty and rebound from under the crossbar. A Tom Warburton goal put Brooklyn back in the game but Bridge fought harder.

Jake Fraser was again outstanding while co-defender Monty Pegrum capped a fine display with a superb clearance off the line.

Heslerton U13s had a lack of players and lost 13-0 in a 10-a-side game against Phoenix in the Scarborough Minor League.

It was a different story for Kirkbymoorside U13s as they won 14-0 at Hunmanby.

Dan Ward hit a hat-trick, with James Farrow, Oliver Magson, Joe Harland and Elliot Hutchinson notching doubles. Thomas Hutchinson, Lawrence Blades and an own goal completed the rout.

Old Malton St Mary’s U12s overcame a difficult playing surface to win 5-2 at Hamilton Panthers in the York Minor League.

Malton quickly went 2- 0 up as Lewis Pople converted Von Sumsard’s cross and Ben Ilsley netted in a scramble.

Panthers drew level but Malton started the second half confidently and their pressure was finally converted into goals with three in the last 10 minutes through Josh Lee, from 18 yards, Joe Barker, after good work from Patrick Jackson, and an own goal.

Pickering Town U11s went top of York Minor League division two with a 6-0 win over Copmanthorpe courtesy of goals from Isaac Finch, Toby Dale, Billy Fewster (2), Morgan Kendrew and Noah Gittins.

At the other end Harry Edwards made a couple of good saves and centre-back Jamie Atkinson contributed greatly to the clean sheet.

The reliable Katie Robinson stood out as Brooklyn U11s Girls beat Bishopthorpe 3-1 – both teams missing penalties.

The hosts started slowly and went a goal down but equalised via a strong run and shot from Florence Pegrum.

The second half saw more of Brooklyn’s passing football but, against the run of play, Bishopthorpe won a penalty – which was well saved by Jevan Crick. Emily Cooper then scored twice for Brooklyn, the second from a great pass from Shauna Yates, but missed the chance of a hat-trick when seeing her spot-kick saved.

Joel Buckle scored twice but his Heslerton U11s side lost 6-2 to Whitby Fishermen in the Scarborough Minor League.

Old Malton St Mary’s U11s had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Easingwold Harriers in the York League.

Malton took control from the start and, after several attempts by Arthur Rees, Miles Rodgers and Adam McWilliams, their persistence eventually paid off with goals by Thomas Anglohuro and Rodgers.

However, Malt suffered two injuries and determined play from Easingwold brought the scores level.

Heslerton U10s lost 3-1 at Goldsborough. Charlie Thompson and Brad Spiller hit the woodwork for Heslerton before Golds went ahead with an own goal from a corner.

Chances kept coming at both ends, with Heslerton man-of-the-match Thomas Allan, who impressed with his movement and tracking back, creating an equaliser for Thompson.

However, the hosts proved sharper in the box.

The second match ended 1-1. Heslerton maintained a higher defensive line, allowing Alfie Thompson and Josh Dolan to drive the midfield forward. A goalkeeping error saw the hosts go ahead, but Heslerton kept battling and a neat move saw Allan equalise.

An excellent team performance saw Old Malton St Mary’s U10s begin their York Minor League campaign with a 3-0 win over Stamford Bridge U10s.

They took the lead when Josh Mann headed home Nathan Dolphin’s corner.

Kallum Moston then won possession in midfield and played a fine though ball which saw Dolphin shoot in off a post.

Dolphin scored his second goal with another low shot to cap a great personal performance.

All the Malton players had claims for man of the match, midfielder Moston getting the nod.

The friendly fixture ended in a 2-0 Old Malton win with goals by man-of-the-match Josh Bagshaw, with an excellent control and finish, and goalkeeper-turned-striker Seb Allan-Swallow, who coolly slotted home.
