A STARRING performance by full-back Nathan Stannard went unrewarded as Brooklyn Under-16s lost 3-2 at Wheldrake in the York Minor League.

The home team pressed from the start and took the lead after 15 minutes when the Brooklyn defence failed to deal with a long throw.

Brooklyn equalised when Marcus Brigham’s corner went straight in at the far post and the rest of the half was fairly equal, as Brooklyn upped their game.

However, Wheldrake retook the lead with a fine breakaway goal, and scored a third when Brooklyn’s defence failed to deal with a simple cross from the right.

Manager Chris Brigham reshuffled the visitors’ formation and Brooklyn went on to miss three great chances, before Matthew Watson sprinted clear to score a fine goal.

Emily Dowson struck four times as Kirkbymoorside U16s Girls won 8-0 at Wigginton. Emily Lockett and Meg Green both bagged braces.

Harvey Townley scored all of the goals and Jacob Konya also starred as Brooklyn U15s beat Stamford Bridge U15s 4-0.

Bridge had a first-half goal disallowed for offside, while Brooklyn, aside from their goals, which all came in the second half with the wind behind them, twice hit the woodwork.

Old Malton St Mary’s U13s took advantage of the blustery conditions in the first half, as Sam Mann and Jack Villa Fordon (2) scored for a 3-0 lead at Heworth.

Attractive football and rigorous defending in the second half led to a 4-1 final scoreline, Theo Wilkie getting Malton’s goal.

Kirkbymoorside U13s went goal silly against Hunmanby in the Scarborough & District Minor League, winning 16-0.

The plunder was shared by Ben Teasdale (4), Jim Farrow (3), Joe Harland (2), Will Lockett (2), Tom Hutchinson (2) and Oliver Magson.

Brooklyn U13s came from behind at half-time to win 3-1 at Poppleton and maintain their unbeaten record in the York Minor League.

The Ryedale team had a sluggish start, but Oliver Townley levelled midway through the second half and players’ player of the match Stephen Kerr’s great shot from outside the box put them ahead. Top scorer Jamie Allen sealed victory late on.

Man of the match was midfielder Will Scholefield.

Pickering Town U12s came out on top 2-0 in a closely fought Scarborough & District Minor League derby at Kirkbymoorside U12s.

In a tight first half, Miles Cullingworth and Harry Coldbeck went close for Pickering while at the other end Matty Ridley in the Pickering goal made two fine saves, notably tipping a free-kick bound for the top corner round a post.

After the break, Pickering stepped up a gear and went in front after Tom Wright burst into the area. His first shot struck a post and after a few ricochets he slotted home.

Jordan Anderson hit the bar and George Ridler fired over from close range before Anderson finished smartly late on.

A Joseph Matique strike with the last kick of the game earned Old Malton St Mary’s U12s a 2-2 draw at Fulford in the York Mitchell Sports League.

Malton had trailed 2-0 at half-time as Fulford defied their lowly league position to catch the visitors napping, and only goalkeeper Zak Thompson’s great double save prevented it getting worse. Captain Josh Lee halved the deficit after good play from Von Sumsard and, after Joe Barker and Patrick Jackson went close, the pressure finally paid off as Matique pounced on a loose ball to beat the ’keeper from five yards. Patryk Jadczuk stood out for Saints.

Pickering Town U11s, despite missing Billy Fewster, who was having a game with Leeds Youth, maintained their unbeaten home record with a 5-4 comeback win over Tadcaster Magnet Blues in York & Ryedale Mitchell League division two.

The taller and stronger Mags went 2-0 up but Pikes debutant Sam Booth came off the bench to score a terrific solo effort and Noah Gittins equalised early in the second half.

Tad quickly retook the lead after a defensive error but the Pikes had rediscovered their passing game and a rejuvenated Isaac Finch, after a quiet first half, was now a constant threat, overcoming rough treatment to set up goals for Morgan Kendrew (2) and Toby Dale.

The Mags grabbed a late consolation but it was too late.

Brooklyn U11s bounced back from defeat by winning 7-0 at Fulford in York & Ryedale Mitchell League division three.

Brooklyn had several efforts on goal before taking the lead as a lob from Lewis Saunders fell on the line for Joe Boyes to tap home, with Saunders making it 2-0 at half-time.

Birthday boy Kyle Johnson came off the bench to score from just inside the box, Billy Leech ran through and slotted home, man-of-the-match midfielder Saunders tapped in his second, Eden Cross hit the ball into the top corner, and Thomas Davies netted via a great strike with his weaker foot.

Brooklyn U11 Girls’ six-game unbeaten run ended as they were edged 1-0 away to a strong Wigginton side.

Wigginton dominated the first half, taking the lead. In the second, Brooklyn made some changes with goalkeeper Jevan Crick going into midfield and they stepped up a gear but could not find a way past an organised home team, despite a creditable never-say-die attitude.

Man-of-the-match honours were shared by goalkeeper Josh Dolan and Tom Owen when Heslerton U10s lost in a friendly double-header against Goldsborough.

Charlie Richardson was the player of the match and Hayden Williamson had a contender for goal of season with a shot from outside the area when Heslerton U9s met Kirkbymoorside U9s.

Old Malton’s revenge

EVER-IMPROVING Old Malton St Mary’s U11s ended their year with a fantastic 2-1 win against York RI Galaxy in the York & Ryedale Mitchell League division three.

In their previous meeting, in the first match of the season, promotion-seeking RI won 9-1, so this result showed how far the Ryedale youngsters have come.

Saints started well, Arthur Rees hitting a post after a valiant run before a brilliant pass by man-of-the-match William Fletcher saw Rees open the scoring.

Rees made it 2-0 at half-time, aided by superb play from Miles Rodgers, Thomas Alngohuro and Bradley Machent.

Galaxy came back strongly and replied after a mistake in the Malt defence. However, only a great penalty save after Huey Wilkie was brought down denied Rees a third goal.

Galaxy desperately sought an equaliser, but phenomenal clearances off the line by Adam McWilliams and Miles Rodgers kept the lead intact.
